About the Event

The Evergreens Fundraiser began the year Safe Harbor Crisis Center opened its doors in 1997 to raise funds to purchase essential furnishings for the shelter rooms.

The combined effort of Women in Business, Medical Auxiliary, Safe Harbor’s founders, and other volunteers created an auction of decorated Christmas trees. The first year offered about 10 trees and an equal number of wreaths and other decor, which were displayed in Five Points Mall in Bountiful, Utah. The first auction brought in over $6,000, which helped open the shelter. The money furnished the rooms, supplied food, and paid for utilities for the 35 women and children that immediately filled the shelter to capacity.

The need for the shelter was equaled by the community’s desire to help, so each year Evergreens grew larger and expanded to new locations to accommodate more donated trees, added craft booths, and wonderful food.

The years 1998-2001 saw the event held at the county fairgrounds. These years, along with craft booths, a dinner was served. And the contributions grew from $10,000 to more than $20,000.

In 2002 and 2003, Evergreens was hosted by St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Bountiful, Utah. Craft booths, candy, and hot cinnamon rolls added to the tree auction helped raise more than $35,000.

In 2004, Evergreens moved to the Davis Conference Center in Layton, where it remains a mainstay event, anticipated each November. The event features one of the largest silent auctions in Davis County with an array of generously donated goods and gift certificates, an amazing live auction featuring donated trees and luxurious vacations, an elegant dinner, and a craft boutique showcasing donated crafts that raise additional funds. In 2014, Evergreens raised a record breaking amount, over $100,000 in support of Safe Harbor! We aim to raise even more in 2016!

Evergreens is a two day event starting on a Monday evening with a “Family Night” that provides a preview of the trees, live entertainment, pictures with Santa, crafts with kids, and the first chance to shop the Evergreens Craft Boutique. Tuesday night features the tasty dinner, live and silent auctions, and continued shopping at the Craft Boutique. This amazing event raises vital funds to support services for domestic violence survivors, child witnesses to domestic violence, and sexual assault survivors.
