Prevention Education

Safe Harbor is helping change the conversation around domestic violence and sexual assault to reduce the incidence of this type of violence in the community.

1 in 3 women in Utah experience domestic violence or sexual assault

at some point in her lifetime. The national average for domestic violence is 1 in 4.

%

of homicides in Utah are related to domestic violence

The national average is 30% for the past 10 years.

We want to change this and you can help!

Bystander Intervention

Designed by the Utah Department of Health, the Bystander Intervention curriculum, Upstanding, teaches individuals how to recognize stereotypes that promote violence and effectively intervene.

For example:

Did you know that derogatory jokes help dehumanize groups of people which makes it easier to victimize them? Now, what do you do if you hear someone making a joke like that? Upstanding will help teach you!

The program is customizable for various audiences and length of training.

Healthy Relationships

Healthy Relationships is based on the Safe Dates curriculum for adolescents.

Through this curriculum, teens learn about healthy relationships, choices, and communication. The curriculum addresses attitudes, opinions, and behaviors related to dating abuse and healthy relationships.

The curriculum explores healthy and unhealthy relationships, what equality looks like, and emotional development.

The curriculum also includes engaging activities, such as developing safe skills and interactive discussion scenarios.

If you work with teens and would like our Preventionist to come teach Healthy Relationships, call 385-515-4044 or email info@safeharborhope.org.

Community Presentations

One of Safe Harbor’s pillars is a commitment to community outreach and prevention education. It is part of our mission to provide domestic violence and sexual assault education, awareness, and resources to our community.

Safe Harbor can provide tailored presentations to school, church, community group or other organization. Topics can include:

  • Domestic Violence 101
  • Sexual Assault 101
  • Safe Harbor Services
  • What you can do to stop violence in your community
  • Bystander Intervention

Many groups request a presentation to launch or conclude a fundraising drive and if you have donations the presenter will be happy to pick them up and bring them back to Safe Harbor (as long as they fit in his/her vehicle!).

Safe Harbor is also available to table at community events.

If you would like to schedule a presentation, please call 801-444-3191 or email info@safeharborhope.org.
